Workshop: Rhodes – Destination Marketing

The need to create a management body of Rhodes as a tourist destination was emphasised at the conference organized by the School of Tourism Anko: "Rhodes – Destination Marketing".
 
"Rhodes can be an international tourist destination, highlighting history, culture, local gastronomy and natural beauties," noted the deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Manos Konsolas, while the managing director of Marketing Greece, Mrs. Ioanna Dretta explained the ways in which this can be achieved through concrete successful examples throughout the world. "If a few of the ones that emerged at the workshop were implemented, then we should all be in our hotels and working," he remarked on his part, Mr. George Matiggos, chairman of the Rhodes Hotel Managers’ Association, stating the determination of industry professionals to actively support this effort, with transparency, open procedures and contributions from everyone.
 
The director of Novus Mind Business Consultants Mr. Ioannis Fotis referred to the opportunities created by social media in an organized effort to promote a destination, while the head of the company Nelios Mr. Dimitris Sherifis, referred to the possibilities of growth of the benefit for the hotel industry, from the development of direct sales/bookings through the Internet.
 
Next to the successful tourist product Sun – Sea, we have to create new proposals to the visitors of Rhodes, utilizing our history, culture, folklore, gastronomy of our island ", remarked in turn the Director of Anko Rhodes, Mrs. Stergia Epsimos opening the workshop's work, which is one more step in the collective effort to create a destination management body for the island.
 
The organization of the workshop was the result of the group effort of the students of the school. To the event contributed the ambassadors of the departments Mrs. Valanto Zacharia, Mrs. Dimitra Bardou, Mrs. Evi Kappiris, Mrs. Antigoni Katartzis. The service of the event was undertaken by the Department of Hotel Management with maitre Kostas Hatzimarkos, Nikos Maniskas, Theodosis Kovios. The offer of coffee was from the department of Barista of the school, with our Professor Mr. Panagiotis Potsou and the courtesy of the company Coffee Plus, while the excellent dishes from the 2nd year of Pastry with the Pastry Chef Mr. Vassilis Meras.
The Chamber of Dodecanese has been a helper once again in ANKO's effort and clearly foothold in the flawless organization and success of the event.
 
The vitality and the interactivity with which the journalist Stavros Monembasiwtis, Alpha TV, took care of the coordination and presentation, kept the interest of the participants throughout the whole day.
